Lisbon Fact of the Day: In 1755, a devastating earthquake dramatically changed Lisbon. When the city rebuilt, the downtown Baixa district emerged with wide, straight streets and innovative building techniques designed with earthquakes in mind. Much of the Lisbon you see today was shaped by this remarkable transformation.
